Humanitarian Enablers Committed To Good: Develop Leaders for Navigating Complex Environments
Challenge
CTG is an acclaimed private sector company specialising in staffing solutions for humanitarian and development organisations in conflict-prone areas. The company faced a few challenges following a huge period of growth and geographic expansion. Members of the team had to take on more responsibility and were suddenly in charge of larger departments. CTG COO James Veysey believed the team needed leadership skills to help them adapt to the company’s new structure.
James wanted the company to shift from a culture heavily reliant on a few top leaders to one that encourages self-motivation and independence across all levels.
Solution
James alongside Leadership Trust Programme Facilitator, Jon Davidge, joined forces to devise a bespoke programme aimed at addressing these challenges. Despite the continuing COVID-19 constraints and geographical dispersion among team members, they set up a flexible training solution that could ultimately accommodate all team members. The programme, Leading in Complex Environments, was a blend of modular online learning and one-on-one coaching sessions.
The modular training approach was meant to foster behavioural change as it increases active learning and improves critical thinking. This was also the first time many of the team members experienced executive coaching. The one-on-one coaching experience helped them to identify areas of improvement in every aspect of their lives.
“I think there will always be a time and a place for what Leadership Trust does.”
– James Veysey, COO
Results
The ‘Leading in Complex Environments’ programme yielded profound and far-reaching results. Notable results included heightened morale, improved employee retention, and remarkable company growth. At the programme’s commencement, CTG employed around 70 individuals, a number that has since expanded to 200. Importantly, every employee who participated in the programme is still a member of the CTG team today.
Perhaps the most remarkable outcome was the significant boost in self-confidence and self-belief among programme participants, aligning with the programme’s specific goals. This increase in self-assuredness stands as concrete evidence of the programme’s success. It has resulted in a more confident and empowered workforce, reinforcing CTG’s mission to make a positive impact and create economic value in the regions it operates.
In a world marked by growth and change, CTG’s commitment to empowering leadership has not only driven its own success but also made a positive contribution to the regions it serves. The ‘Leading in Complex Environments’ programme exemplifies the transformative power of purposeful leadership development, ensuring that CTG’s continued expansion is guided by capable, confident, and empowered leaders.
